About the Community Grant Advisory Boards

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) - Office of Justice Programs (OJP) distributes State and Federal funds through competitive grant processes.

DPS-OJP is currently seeking volunteers to participate in the American Rescue Plan Act Innovation in Community Safety grant process by serving on a Community Grant Advisory Board for one of the following four counties: Hennepin, Ramsey, St. Louis and Beltrami.

Community Grant Advisory Board members will:
- Read, take notes on, and score grant applications from June 3 - 17, 2022
- Attend a one-hour remote session to discuss a selection of the applications
- Spend approximately 20-40 hours on this work, depending on total grant proposals received

Community Grant Advisory Board members:
- Must reside or work in one of the Qualified Census Tracts within one of the four selected counties: Hennepin, Ramsey, St. Louis or Beltrami. (This does not apply to the chairperson of the board.)
- Should ideally have experience providing direct services to victims or others as part of their employment or regular volunteer work
- Must not be directly affiliated with any potential Innovation in Community Safety Grant applicants

Who can serve?
DPS-OJP is interested in individuals who have some lived experience and/or background in the areas of victim services and/or violence prevention and intervention. OJP will give special consideration to:
- Geographic representation from throughout the four counties
- Ethnic and racial diversity
- Veteran status
- Disability status
- And a balance between those with previous experience and people who will bring new perspectives to the grant review process.
