Summer Students! Here Are
Three Steps in Getting Your ID Badge:

_______

Summer Students may refer to this PDF for the full instructions and/or may refer to the article below.
Pre-Enrollment
Summer Students must provide personally identifiable information to your Administrative Officer. This includes providing your full name, SSN, place of birth, date of birth, and more. Make sure the information provided is accurate and consistent across all forms.

Badge Enrollment
Badge Enrollment must be completed at an NIH PIV Card Issuance Facility (PCIF), as the following can only be conducted at an NIH PCIF:
  • Collection of Fingerprints (FBI fingerprint criminal history check and biometric integration to badge)
  • Identity Proofing (requires 2 forms of valid, government issued-ID)
  • Photograph
Summer Students can complete Badge Enrollment at any of the below NIH PCIF/Enrollment Offices:
  • NIH Bethesda Main Campus in Bethesda, MD
  • Medical Center Drive in Rockville, MD
  • Fishers Lane in Rockville, MD
  • Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Montana
  • National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in North Carolina
For Summer Students located within 50 miles of an NIH PCIF:
  1. Wait for the email authorizing enrollment.
  2. Schedule an Enrollment appointment at the closest NIH PCIF to you.
    • Use the appointment scheduler link in the email to select your desired location, date, and time.
    • Contact the DPSAC helpdesk for scheduling assistance: (301) 402-9755 or ORSPersonnelSecurity@mail.nih.gov.
  3. Bring two forms of valid, unexpired government issued ID (one of which must be a photo ID) to your appointment. (Example: Social Security Card, Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, Passport, etc.)
  4. Bring your DPSAC appointment confirmation to NIH Campus Security Screening. At the appointment, identity proofing using your ID cards will be conducted, and your photograph and biometrics will be collected.
For Summer Students located more than 50 miles of an NIH PCIF:
Summer Students who cannot travel to an NIH Enrollment Facility before their entry-on-duty date, also known as their start date, can utilize Fieldprint.
  1. Wait for the email authorizing enrollment.
  2. Contact ORSfingerprintservice@mail.nih.gov and provide your name, Zip Code, and NIH ID.
  3. DPSAC will send instructions for your Fieldprint appointment at a location near you. Be sure to follow these emailed instructions, so your fingerprints can be used by DPSAC to conduct your FBI criminal history check.
  4. Bring two forms of valid, unexpired government issued ID (one of which must be a photo ID) to your Fieldprint appointment. (Example: Social Security Card, Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, Passport, etc.)
  5. After your Fieldprint appointment, schedule your NIH Badge Enrollment and Issuance Appointment on your start date.

Badge Issuance
  1. Wait for the email authorizing badge issuance. You will not be able to pick up your badge prior to your start date.
  2. Schedule an Issuance appointment.
    • Use the appointment scheduler link in the email to select your desired location, date, and time.
    • Contact the DPSAC helpdesk for scheduling assistance: (301) 402-9755 or ORSPersonnelSecurity@mail.nih.gov.
  3. Bring one form of a valid, unexpired US government issued photo ID to the appointment
  4. Select a PIN (6-8 numerical digits) number that will be used and entered for your badge.
