ICYMI: Lt. Gov. Austin Davis Highlights Initiatives That Are Working to Address Gun Violence and Make Communities Safer

July 18, 2023

HARRISBURG – Through a statewide “Safer Communities” tour, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis has been highlighting local initiatives funded by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) that are helping to address gun violence and make Pennsylvania communities safer.

Over the past week the Safer Communities tour visited Pittsburgh, York, Philadelphia, Allentown, Wilkes-Barre and Erie.

In addition, the Lieutenant Governor spoke at the Pennsylvania Sheriffs’ Association annual summer conference in State College and participated in a roundtable discussion on gun violence hosted by state Rep. Stephen Kinsey.

Davis chairs PCCD, which administers a wide range of public safety funding streams, including Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) grants, and provides technical assistance to address community violence throughout the Commonwealth, with a focus on preventing and intervening with gun and group-related violence. The state budget passed by the House and Senate would provide $40 million total for VIP grants. This infusion of resources would help PCCD support effective community-based initiatives.
