Description of Work

This is an anticipated vacancy.  This position is expected to be available on May 3, 2024.


The Operations Technician maintains network integrity and supports the Criminal Justice Information Network - Mobile Data Network (CJIN-MDN) and Voice Interoperability Plan for Emergency Responders (VIPER) for the State Highway Patrol. The majority of this position's work is accomplished in the Highway Patrol's Network Operations Center (NOC). These networks provide "lifeline" communications to Troopers and other Public Safety agencies in NC. The position is also responsible for monitoring alarm systems of the Telco and microwave data links to ensure connectivity to the various transmitter sites across the state. In the case of an outage, the technician must contact the appropriate Telco entity and/or the Microwave Group to see that the outage is corrected. Stress associated with the work is a factor. Routine work may sometimes be interrupted to handle other projects of higher priority. The assigned work location is Raleigh, NC (Wake County).

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. This position works assigned shifts to include weekend and night shifts. This position also requires current possession of a valid NC driver's license OR the ability to obtain a NC driver's license upon hire.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. About the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP):
The mission of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people in North Carolina. This section has the responsibility of managing a statewide communications system for the purpose of providing voice and analog/digital communication for the members of the NCSHP, Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN), and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
