This Accounting Technician II is located in the Grants section of the Controllers' Office of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. The Grants section ensures fiscal accountability of the use of funds awarded to the agency from various sources.  This includes compliance, interpreting and applying federal regulations, cash management and reporting of expenditures.  The agency receives federal grants, cooperative agreements, state grants and private grants.
 
This position is responsible for the interpretation, auditing and monitoring of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). These MOUs are the legal agreements which obligate grant funds. Each MOU must be reviewed for accuracy, completeness and approvals. The MOUs are developed by Divisions and forwarded to the Grants Section for entry into the Grants Management Databases. This position is responsible for entering the data into the database to generate cost reports. These cost reports are forwarded to the sub-grantee to utilize when requesting reimbursement.  Once the reimbursement requests are submitted for processing, they must be audited for appropriate signatures, calculations and support.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.  The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm.

This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of a State Teleworking Pilot Program.  Any telework will be under the conditions of the State Teleworking Program Policy, and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time at the employer’s sole discretion.

The salary grade for this position is NC06.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

The mission of DPS is to safeguard and preserve the lives and property of the people of North Carolina through prevention, protection, and preparation with integrity and honor.  Included in this department are Alcohol Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice Information Network, Emergency Management, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, NC National Guard, NC Office of Recovery and Resiliency, Samarcand Training Academy, State Capitol Police, and State Highway Patrol.  Also included are these Boards and Commissions: ABC Commission, Governor’s Crime Commission, Private Protective Services Commission, and Boxing & Combat Sports Commission.  DPS is comprised of approximately 6,000 permanent positions and nearly 13,000 NC National Guard temporary positions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of accounting experience;
or
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience in accounting work;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
