SAA Council Approves Requirement for Salary Transparency

May 26, 2021—At its May 2021 virtual meetings, the SAA Council:

  • Approved requiring compensation information on all job postings listed in the SAA Career Center and via official SAA blogs and social media, as well as requiring all institutions that post a job to “include complete, accurate, and standardized data related to qualifications, job type, and salary or salary range.” The Archival Compensation Task Force plans to continue gathering data, developing resources, and establishing guidelines to promote greater salary transparency. Staff will work with the third-party vendor that runs the SAA Career Center to establish a timeline for implementing these changes. (2.III.A.)
  • Met with the Executive Director Search Committee in a confidential executive session to discuss the current search. More information about hiring a new executive director will be forthcoming. (1.II.A.)
  • Approved the awarding of several Council Exemplary Service Awards and Council Resolutions honoring SAA members and groups for their outstanding contributions to the profession and to SAA.  Awards will be announced in conjunction with the 2021 Annual Meeting. (2.IV.A.1.)
  • In addition, the Council discussed the following:
    • The status of the DEIA/cultural competency work plan that is being drafted by an internal working group. The Council will solicit input from several component groups prior to distributing a draft for member comment.
    • Integrating sustainability issues across the organization and within the Strategic Plan.
    • Proposing a bylaws amendment that would remove the requirement for an all-member referendum on dues changes.

If you have questions or concerns about these Council actions, contact SAA President Rachel Vagts (president@archivists.org) or Executive Director Nancy Beaumont (nbeaumont@archivists.org). Comprehensive minutes of the May meetings will be available soon via the SAA website

At its June 11, 2021, virtual meeting, the Council will discuss and approve the fiscal year 2022 budget. The next general Council meeting will be held in early August in conjunction with the 2021 SAA Annual Meeting. If you’d like to have an item considered for inclusion on the next agenda, submit it to Vagts and/or Beaumont by July 5.
