LORAIN, Ohio — We have a great update to share with you on efforts to protect the mental health of students in school. We’ve told you about the John’s Safe Place nonprofit before as the organization has opened multiple "safe space" rooms at schools throughout Northeast Ohio.
On Thursday night, they revealed one of the newest rooms at Clearview High School in Lorain.
These rooms are meant to be a space where students can decompress, collect themselves and not feel overwhelmed.
The organization was started after the founder’s son, John, took his own life in 2017.
The first room was installed at Fairview Park High School, John's high school alma mater.
For those feeling lost and contemplating suicide, please know there is help. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline can be reached by dialing 988. More resources are also available here.
The Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County also has a 24-hour addiction crisis hotline at 216-623-6888.
