Based on skills and qualifications, laboratory work may include conducting bioassays with adult and larval honey bees, dissections, phenotyping based on behavior and symptom development, real-time PCR and other diagnostic assessments, and bacterial culturing of honey bee microbiota. Field tasks will mainly be related to honey bee colony establishment and maintenance, sample collection, and data recording with respect to colony health and population metrics. In addition, semi-field duties will include identifying and phenotyping colonies and individual bees performing specific behaviors, which includes some work with microscopes and observation hives, respectively, will be required. Coordination and communication with other scientists and technicians will also be necessary. Occasional travel to field sites may be required.
