Highlights
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) is a vital yet complex sector, with three distinct subsectors that involve daily interaction between authorities at the federal, state and LGA levels; service providers; contractors and entrepreneurs on the one hand; and the Nigerian population on the other hand.
To understand, analyze and be able to address the complexities of the WASH sector in Nigeria, NORM was designed to capture fine details of the sector through the use of five questionnaire modules that collect more than 350 pieces of information from households, water facilities, schools, primary healthcare centers and public places. This year, two very important modules were added: water quality and financial tracking.
The information contained in this publication is drawn from data collected under the 2019 WASH NORM survey. The WASH NORM was commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) and carried out by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), with technical and financial support from UNICEF, African Development Bank (AfDB), and the World Bank.
The 2019 NORM survey design, implementation and reporting relies on the contributions of a large number of personnel, and key government and donor stakeholders from FMWR, NBS, UNICEF, World Bank, and other Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs) across numerous sectors at various stages of the survey.
