Project Overview

The Gulfgate Redevelopment Authority (TIRZ 8) proposes to reconstruct Telephone Road from the S Loop East Freeway frontage road to Reveille Street in Houston, Texas. The purpose of the project includes improving mobility, access management, and safety for the adjacent community as well as for the greater Houston region.

Project elements under consideration include:

  • Reconstruction and reconfiguration of the roadway inclusive of access management considerations

  • Expanded pedestrian facilities

  • Consideration of bicycle and public transportation elements

  • Stormwater infrastructure upgrades

  • Public utility (water/wastewater) improvements

  • Improved lighting, traffic markings, and related signalization

  • Street trees and other landscape features

TIRZ 8 has identified this project to be an integral part of the area’s growth and redevelopment. TIRZ 8 is investing significant financial resources for project development in pursuit of discretionary federal grant funding for this project. The first phase of project development will provide clear direction and expectations for the future of the project, providing enough information to agree upon a preferred alternative moving forward should funding become available.

TIRZ 8 is seeking community input and feedback regarding the project through this website, a public survey, and a series of public meetings. All project related materials will be available in Project Materials.

Additional information on upcoming public meetings and a survey will be available mid-2022.
