The Family Interaction Program (FIP) of Monroe County
Offered only in Monroe County, this program is for parents facing the greatest barriers and challenges to safely parenting and providing for their children. This is a referral based program coordinating exclusively with Monroe County Human Services. We provide families with a safe and supportive environment to maintain relationship with their children. This program also offers evidence based parent education to further support parents in their parenting journey.
Family Peer Support Coordinator
The Family Peer Support Coordinator works as part of a team with families enrolled in Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) and Children's Long Term Waiver Services (CLTS) to parents/ guardians of qualifying participants in La Crosse County. Support is based on the families unique needs and goals and may include areas of education, advocacy, accessing county and state services, school support, applying and using benefits, and parenting a child with special needs.
Supervised Visitation and Exchange Program
The Supervised Visitation and Exchange Program offers a safe, family friendly place for families affected by domestic violence to visit with their children in a supervised setting or to exchange their children for shared placement time. Children are able to continue to have a relationship with both parents in a safe, conflict free environment. All supervised visits and exchanges take place at The Parenting Place in La Crosse. This program is a partnership with New Horizons and La Crosse County Courts. Referrals are received through Family Court order, Mediation and Family Court Services, attorneys, or through self-referrals.
Community Response Innovation Project
The Community Response Innovation Project is a voluntary program that receives referrals from the Holmen School District and Holmen Childcare Centers. The goal of the Innovation Project is to prevent reports to Child Protective Services from ever occurring by working with families to fill unmet needs expressed by the family; housing, employment, health care, parenting support and basic needs. The program coordinator, school social worker and childcare center directors work closely to determine if a family can benefit from the program.
Family Navigation Specialist
The Family Navigation Specialist works with families in La Crosse and Monroe counties when a Functional Screen needs to be completed for a child. Many programs in Wisconsin that provide supports and services for children with special needs require that a functional screen be completed to determine eligibility. Examples include: the CLTS Waiver Program, the Children’s Community Options Program (CCOP), Comprehensive Community Services (CCS), among others.
The Functional Screen is a screening tool that collects information on your child’s health, need for supports and how they play and interact with others. The Family Navigation Specialist meets with families, either virtually or in your own home, and asks questions about your child. The staff will then complete a screening tool that will determine your child’s program eligibility.
Community Response
The Community Response Program is a voluntary program that receives referrals from screened out Child Protective Services reports in La Crosse County. The goal of the Community Response program is to work with families to help meet needs that will ultimately prevent re-reports to child protective services. When a family accepts services, The Community Response Coordinator offers supports and resources to families that will meet the parents expressed needs; housing, employment, health care, parenting support, basic needs.
