Context, assumptions, and expectations

The purpose of the following questions is to consider 20 possible legislative issues and identify a shorter list of priorities (ideally 4-7 issues) that the recovery community believes are the most important and timely to address in the coming 2024 state legislative session.

  • In 2024, the state legislature will convene for a 60-day supplemental session. Supplemental budget appropriations will be part of the conversation.
  • According to recent revenue reports and forecasts, the state budget is leveling off and on track for continued slow growth into the future. This predicted stability follows several years of rapid growth and more recent inflation and recession concerns.  
  • State agencies have submitted their budget requests for the 2024 supplemental budget to the State Office of Financial Management (OFM). All budget requests are available here
  • In the Summer of 2023, the Puget Sound recovery community brainstormed a list of 20 issues that are important to Puget Sound recovery. Many of these ideas will continue advancing Puget Sound and salmon recovery priorities outlined in the 2022-2026 Action Agenda. While not always explicitly mentioned, the below ideas can also have many benefits for climate resilience and equity and environmental justice if implemented according to new legal requirements.
  • The following questions ask you to identify the issues that the recovery community believes are the most important and urgent/timely to address in the coming 2024 state legislative session.
