That Perry County, like other counties across Ohio, has been hit hard by the opioid epidemic is no secret. A recently released report from an Ohio University-affiliated organization delivers some details on how bad the problem is, as well as information on how the county is fighting back.

The report from the Ohio Alliance for Population Health notes that according to Ohio Department of Health (ODH) data, Perry County saw six overdose deaths in the five years from 2000-2005. A decade later, the picture had changed dramatically; from 2015 to 2020, the county recorded 60 overdose deaths – a ten-fold increase.
