Babies with coronavirus: One Texas county reports a disturbing trend

One Texas county is reporting a scary and downright troubling coronavirus trend — their babies are testing positive.

Eighty-five babies under the age of one have been found to have the virus, thus far, in Nueces County as the state faces a COVID-19 surge. According to a report on Yahoo.com, 8,100 people in the county have tested positive, and, so far 82 have died.

“These babies have not even had their first birthday yet,” Annette Rodriguez, the director of public health for the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Health District, told CNN. “Please help us stop the disease.”

The report said the condition of the babies wasn’t released, and “health officials aren’t entirely clear about the effects of the virus on children.” However, the report said, a boy in the county, “younger than six months old,” died from the disease last week.

Doctors have also recorded an odd, multi-system inflammatory syndrome in some children who have contracted the virus.
