The Buildings of Excellence Competition.
The Buildings of Excellence (BOE) Competition is a $58 million competition with monetary awards distributed over four rounds. Kicked off in early 2019, the Competition recognizes and rewards the design, construction, and operation of clean, resilient, and carbon neutral multifamily buildings. There are two paths to participate in the program: one for Demonstration Projects and one for Early Design Support. Links to both paths can be found in the sections below.

Designing and developing clean and resilient buildings that are good for both businesses and residents is at the core of this Competition. The honorees are visionary architects and developers who take the lead in achieving beautiful, zero emissions buildings that improve our quality of life; and, most importantly, inspire the industry to follow their example toward a carbon neutral future. Their buildings are good for the environment, highly profitable, and give businesses a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Winning Demonstration Projects awarded up to $1 million.
Demonstration projects awarded through the Competition are going beyond developing beautiful and profitable new buildings: they are establishing a legacy in the State of New York and leading the clean energy transition.
Design Firm Partners awarded up to $100,000.
Design Firm Partners in the BOE Early Design Support program are going beyond designing beautiful and functional new buildings: they are creating healthy, safe, comfortable, and resilient spaces that provide a carbon-neutral lifestyle for New York State residents.
