Federal Housing Finance Agency Employees Vote for Representation

Press Release August 11, 2023

WASHINGTON – Frontline employees of the Federal Housing Finance Agency will be represented by the National Treasury Employees Union following the results of a union election announced this week.

The employees voted 254-24 for NTEU to be their exclusive representative, according to election results collected by the Federal Labor Relations Authority.

“We are honored and proud to represent FHFA employees, whose work is essential to helping homeowners and renters across the country,” said NTEU National President Doreen Greenwald. “FHFA employees told us they wanted a strong advocate to help improve the workplace and make sure they have the tools and resources to do the job, and we look forward to giving these dedicated civil servants a greater voice.”

The new bargaining unit is made up of about 500 non-supervisory employees at the Washington D.C. headquarters. FHFA now joins 34 other federal departments and agencies with frontline employees represented by NTEU, including independent regulatory agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“We congratulate FHFA employees on their decision to join the federal sector labor community alongside their colleagues across government who together will fight for fair pay, a better work-life balance and adequate agency funding,” Greenwald said.

NTEU represents employees in 35 federal agencies and offices.
