Pedestrian killed in early morning N.J. crash, police say

A 38-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck in Lodi on Saturday morning, police said in a statement.

The identity of the individual has not been released.

The fatal crash took place around 3:40 a.m. on Route 17 South, north of the Route 80 interchange, according to the authorities.

The Lodi Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle near 240 Route 17 South.

The pedestrian died on the scene, police said.

The assistant prosecutor said more information on the accident was not currently available. An investigation is ongoing by the prosecutor’s office and the sheriff’s office.
