Pedestrian killed by car in South Jersey is ID’d by police

Vineland police have identified a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car Friday night as a 65-year-old city resident.

Walberto Diaz-Marquez was in the roadway on West Chestnut Avenue near Southwest Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. when he was hit by the car, according to police.

The accident did not occur at an intersection or near a crosswalk, police said, and they don’t know why Diaz-Marquez was in the road.

The driver was identified as a 49-year-old Vineland woman. No charges have been filed, but the case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Officer Agustin Santiago at 856-691-4111, ext. 4247.
