Touring the Shelter

The public is allowed to walk throughout the adoption center without staff supervision during adoption hours to see the dog, cat, exotics and small animal rooms. If you are a group interested in visiting the adoption center, we can provide you with a written guide to our center to help you as you navigate throughout the various adoption rooms.

In our tours, groups have the opportunity to learn about the services the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center offers and also see the animals who are waiting for their forever families.  Tours typically last about 40-45 minutes. Because of safety and health concerns, we do not offer direct contact with our animals.

Some groups choose to support our shelter animals by collecting items from our  Wish List. Thank you in advance for your support and for visiting the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center!

If you are interested in taking a tour, please fill out the Tour Request Form.

Owned and operated by the Montgomery County Office of Animal Services, the Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center is a new 49,160 square-foot, energy-efficient facility containing public adoption areas, private animal holding and treatment areas, classroom, conference room and office space.

The main building houses Animal Services functions, such as isolation, quarantine, and holding of feral, ill or seized animals, and also serves as a public adoption center and community education resource for animal care issues.  A second outbuilding, containing stalls, stacking coops, and a feed storage area serves as a livestock barn – this area also includes a fenced paddock for outdoor exercise.

A walking trail is available for staff and volunteers to walk resident animals and give them daily access to fresh air.  Outdoor fenced exercise runs are also provided adjacent to the canine holding and quarantine areas for supervised use.

HVAC systems are designed to provide ten air changes per hour, which reduces the spread of odors and disease. Radiant floor heating in all canine areas provides added comfort for the animals.
