A Message for Milken Educators from Oprah

Oprah Winfrey has a special message for the outstanding educators receiving the $25,000 Milken Educator Award this year: “You are creating positive ripples in the lives of your students that will continue to impact them in ways you may never know.”

Oprah is part of our Milken Award history. Back in 1996, Oprah and her live TV audience joined Lowell Milken to present the 1,000th Award in Chicago. Her inspirational message of gratitude and celebration is especially meaningful at such a challenging time for the profession. Says Lowell: “As we celebrate our foundation’s 40th anniversary and are approaching the 3,000th Award recipient, we are honored that Oprah values the exceptional principals and teachers who comprise the Milken Educators and encourages them to continue their life-changing work.”
