Since its launch, the MileageSmart program has assisted nearly 1,100 moderate to low-income Vermonters in purchasing vehicles with high mileage-per-gallon from Vermont auto dealers. The monthly demand for incentives from our dealer network continues to rise, surpassing expectations for this pilot program significantly! That’s the good news. Unfortunately, we are quickly depleting funds allocated for the program. The following changes will go in effect on June 1, 2024:

The updated MileageSmart incentive offers 25% of the vehicle's initial price, capped at $2,500, for used EVs and Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles (PHEVs). Conventional Hybrid Vehicles are no longer eligible for this incentive. SNAP benefits recipients will continue to receive $5,000 for EVs and Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles, and $2,500 for Conventional Hybrid Vehicles.
