Easton police and the Northampton County coroner’s office are investigating after a man was found dead in the city’s South Side.
Police were called to the area of Bird and Iron streets around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, where officers discovered the man’s body, said Inspector Daniel Reagan in a news release.
The Northampton County district attorney’s office also responded, Reagan said.
Several hours later, police responded to an area hospital for a gunshot victim. The wounded man told police he was walking in the area of 13th and Ferry streets when he was shot in an attempted robbery.
Police have determined that the man actually shot himself accidentally while handling a firearm. The investigation showed that no robbery occurred, and that the individual was not a victim of a crime.
