Marin Healthy Youth Partnerships works collaboratively to reshape community norms that drive youth substance use by partnering with young people, families, schools and other community organizations to promote a thriving environment.

Underage substance use in Marin County is one of the highest in all of California. MHYP is a community-based non-profit focused on reducing the high rates by creating evidence-based programs that provide education and support prevention policy through engaging youth, parents, and the community at large. MHYP’s strength comes from working collaboratively with many groups and dedicated volunteers who care about this issue. Come join us!

Let’s Talk Marin

MHYP developed the first Let’s Talk booklets in 2020. The program includes booklets for middle school and high school parents, yearly community discussion series, and local resources. In 2022, MHYP collaborated on producing a California version of the Let’s Talk booklet for statewide use.

Raising the Bar

MHYP started Raising the Bar in 2017 in Ross Valley as a parent modeling program aiming to eliminate drinking at youth-centered athletics and other events. As of 2023, there are nearly 50 participating youth teams, schools and other organization - who have adopted policies to keep youth events substance-free.

Numb or Nourish

MHYP launched phase 1 of the Numb or Nourish campaign in 2022 with the goal of raising awareness and building skills around healthy choices and healthy environments. The workgroup is currently collaborating with teens on a peer-led healthy choices campaign to be launched in 2023.

Be the Influence

Be the Influence (BTI) was started in 2010 by MHYP founding member, Laurie Dubin. Be the Influence is a parenting program which seeks to delay adolescent substance use by reducing social access. In 2023, BTI was transferred to MHYP where the program is being expanded to reach more local parents.
