Programs

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Cash assistance to help families work towards becoming self-sufficient.

ASPIRE helps TANF recipients move towards financial independence through case management, job training, education, support and employment services.

Parents as Scholars is a monthly benefit through TANF that helps parents working through a two- or four-year degree-granting education program.

Alternative Aid Assistance helps TANF eligible parents who need short term help to find or maintain employment.

Emergency Assistance provides benefits to an eligible applicant when the applicant has a documented emergency situation that they were unable to prevent and are unable to cure without assistance.

Health Care Assistance

Free and low-cost health insurance and other help affording health care for people who meet certain requirements, such as income, age, or medical condition.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

Helps low-income households buy nutritious food.

Maine SNAP-Ed provides nutrition education services with helpful information on how to eat healthy on a budget.

SNAP E&T helps connect SNAP participants with job training and education.

General Assistance

Helps individuals and families to meet their basic needs.

Higher Opportunity for Pathways to Employment (HOPE)

Helps Maine parents enroll in and complete training and education beyond high school by providing financial support for costs related to training and education.

Can help you establish, enforce, and collect child support payments, locate parents, and establish paternity.

Disability Determination

Makes disability decisions for the Social Security Administration.

Fraud, Investigation & Recovery Unit (FIRU)

Report misuse of public benefits administered by the Maine DHHS.
