The Citizen’s Police Academy is an educational opportunity intended to provide in-depth information about the Lynchburg Police Department and our police operations.  The course will expose you to many of the same topics and training that our officers receive so that you will better understand how the police and criminal justice system work.

This 9-week program is an opportunity for community members to learn about department operations and relative trends in law enforcement. The curriculum will include topics such as the LPD service philosophy, aspects of patrol, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, special operations, equipment familiarity, and laws of arrest.

  • The Body Worn Camera System 
  • Traffic Stop Scenarios/Traffic Safety 
  • Field Operations 
  • Use of Force  
  • Taser Demonstration
  • Firearms Training Simulator

If you are interested, please complete the Citizen’s Police Application and return it in person to the Information Desk at 905 Court Street. Applicants will have a background check completed.

There is no cost to participate in this program. You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. Look for more information on our Facebook Page for when the next Citizen’s Police Academy will be held.
