Two Dallas-based companies, Aligned Data Centers and Databank Inc., announced plans to expand their operations in Plano, Texas.

According to a statement by Community Impact, during its meeting on Feb. 5, the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval for one specific-use permit and two preliminary site plans.

Aligned Data Centers operates in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. The company has two large buildings located on a 19-acre campus at 2800 Summit Ave. and is planning to construct a new building on 450,000 square feet on the west side of North Star Road.

In January, the company also announced the launch of new cooling technologies that are more sustainable and will allow for higher densities at its facilities.

Community Impact also reported that official city documents indicate that a new electric substation will be built on the premises of the data center in addition to the new building.

DataBank is a company that operates in North America and Britain. They have a 16-acre Plano campus in the Legacy Business Park. The company plans to expand its campus by adding a new building covering more than 267,000 square feet. This expansion is estimated to cost $280 million and will be located at 8735 Dominion Pkwy.

In November 2023, Dallas Business Journal reported that DataBank raised $533 million to support the construction of new data centers in North Texas. This funding came shortly after DataBank announced almost $1.6 billion in financing earlier in the same year.

According to a report on WFAA, North Texas is one of the largest data center markets in the US and is witnessing steady growth in the construction of new data centers.

Plano is home to many large corporations, technology companies and startups. Opening new data centers in Plano can attract new business opportunities and clients looking for reliable regional data infrastructure services.
