During the 2024 Energy Exchange tradeshow, U.S. Embassy Koror and The Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) were recognized for OBO’s installation of a 162-kW photovoltaic system with the intent of making Embassy Koror the first U.S. net-zero energy embassy on a net-annual basis. The on-site solar installation was designed to produce 100% of the embassy’s historic power needs, resulting in a projected cost avoidance of over $100,000 each year and significantly reducing the embassy’s environmental impact. Kudos to OBO staff David R. Shaffer, PE CEM CRM, Todd Evans, Sharmeena Salam-Haughton , and Joseph (Joe) Cafferata for driving this innovative project. Over the past month we have spotlighted women across the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations serving in roles from design and construction to facilities management, program analysis, leadership, policy and financial management. No matter what role each of these women plays in the organization, the message this month was the support each gives the other through celebrating one another’s accomplishments and how they have inspired others. These women are just some of the many heroes across our organization. While we wish that we could place a spotlight on everyone, we hope you have taken the opportunity to celebrate your heroes over the past month in your own personal way, to carry on the goal of always lifting one another up. #WomensHistoryMonth -- Special thanks to Stephanie Leedom, AIA for leading this initiative.
