Able SC is a disability-led organization transforming systems, communities, and individuals.

About us

Able SC is a disability-led organization seeking transformational changes in systems, communities, and individuals. Since 1994, we’ve remained a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability nonprofit that seeks to make South Carolina a national model of equity and inclusion for all people with disabilities. We are the state’s oldest and largest federally recognized disability-led organization. More than 3/4 of our staff are people with disabilities, as are over half of our Board of Directors. We practice coequality, disability justice and representation, and true inclusion through consumer-driven independence and disability pride. We didn’t just learn this. As people with disabilities, our work doesn’t end when we leave the office. Disability is part of who we are. We live this every day.

It's Sarah's 3 years at Able SC! Sarah is a Community Access Specialist focused on our digital accessibility programs. As a proud blind woman who is neruodivergent, her expertise is personal. Sarah is passionate about equitable access to digital spaces for people with all types of disabilities. Sarah works from our Columbia office, "Any time I see a client work to make their website more accessible, have a lightbulb moment about why accessibility is important, or serve as an advocate for digital accessibility is a proud moment for me." Fun fact about Sarah, she's fluent in multiple languages! We asked her what keeps her coming back to work each day, "Seeing the dedication of our clients to creating accessible digital spaces.” #DisabiltyEmployment #WorkAnniversary #Celebrate [Graphic with light blue background and photos of Sarah, a white woman with cropped blonde hair, smiling.
