Bail set for suspect in fatal stabbing in downtown Seattle park

SEATTLE — A man accused of fatally stabbing another man in his 30s Thursday night in City Hall Park in downtown Seattle was recently released from jail for another crime.

According to police, Michael Sedejo was still holding a knife that may have been used to stab the victim in the City Hall Park stabbing.

On Saturday, there was a first court appearance for Sedejo in the stabbing. His bail was set at $2 million, after prosecutors told the judge that the suspect was a “danger to the community.”

Prosecutors also told the judge the victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

The day of the stabbing, police found the victim and started CPR, but when medics arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene.

In a pending robbery and assault case from April 2021, prosecutors had asked the judge in the first court appearance to hold Sedejo on $50,000 bail “to protect the safety of the the community.” However, the judge set bail at $20,000.

During the following arraignment, prosecutors said Sedejo’s bail was then lowered to $5,000, and he was released after posting bail concerning that previous case.
