Kids Voting Durham (KVD)  is offering youth age 14-24 virtual and hybrid internship opportunities this summer.  KVD is looking for volunteers who want to deepen or develop their outreach, writing, technical, design, and community-building skills while empowering other youth to be civically engaged. All opportunities are virtual, and, if desired by participant, can have the opportunity for some in-person components.   Working on the KVD 2022 North Carolina Election Guide, KVD civic education materials, and other projects, will youth have the opportunity to learn new skills and deepen existing ones while creating materials and resources that are valued by youth, educators, and leaders in the community.  Youth work in a fun, inclusive team environment where youth voice is valued, and youth have a genuine decision-making role.

TIME:  10-25 hours/week, June 20 (or earlier)-July 30 (dates are flexible); there will be 2 weekly all-team 60-90 minute zoom meetings each week (days to be determined based on best times for group) plus small team and independent work

QUALIFICAITONS

·     Age 14-24

·      Willingness to be non-partisan in carrying out Kids Voting assignments and representing the organization

·       Ability to work independently and with a peer group

 

PROJECTS

Election Guide

Each Election KVD produces a youth-conceived and written Election Guide that is considered the best around!   Help shape what content is included and what it is important to know about candidates and issues.  Youth on this team will work on one or more sub projects according to their skills and interests

·       Planning of guide content

·       Candidate Questionnaires and Info

·       Research and write sections on: Candidates, Issues, Government  Branches

·       Video creation

·       Design for print & Instagram version

·       Interactive elements

·       Voice over/animate sections of guide

·       Get out the Vote promotional materials

Civic Education Materials and Activities

KVD  produces quality  K-12 curriculum for use in classrooms, families and youth organizations

·       Research and writing for new & updated topics

·       Adapting existing Kids Voting lessons for digital and distance learning environments

·       Research new interactive ways to engage youth in classroom curriculum and in web features

·       Create new online ways for youth to share feedback on candidates and issues and talk to each other about elections
