SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County and Fairchild Air Force Base (FAFB) celebrated the opening of the regional Law Enforcement Training Center Thursday.

The center is one of the highest caliber training facilities in the country and there is no other facility like it in the nation.

The training facility features a 21-lane indoor small arms range, 50-foot concrete tower for helicopter rescues and SWAT rappelling, indoor and outdoor K9 training sites and video simulators.

The video simulators are used to teach law enforcement how to respond to unique scenarios.

The center is a joint partnership with the United States Air Force and FAFB.

The project has been in the works since 2007.

"We have this beautiful facility and nobody can take that away from us. This is ours. We're not borrowing it from someone else. We're not sharing this with anyone else," Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said.

"This is what our community thinks of us and what they expect of us. So, let's use it and make sure that we are doing the best work in policing," Nowels said.

Over 100 law enforcement members, military leaders and elected officials attended Thursday's ribbon-cutting ceremony and toured the facility.
