Introduction
This is responsible work involving accomplishing specified goals relating to the city’s Department of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
Nature Of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of
more than average difficulty to promote the involvement of artists in projects
throughout the city, enhance the physical environment of the city, and
celebrate the city’s unique character and identity. This employee is required
to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment with respect to
project management. Work requires considerable tact and courtesy in engaging
with neighborhoods, diverse groups, inter-departmental representatives, and
public art committee members. The position requires some work to be performed
on nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure service standards are being
achieved. Work is reviewed through conferences, observations and results
obtained.
Examples of Duties
- Assists Arts & Cultural Affairs staff in all needed work to
meet their goals. This position will
participate in all phases of public art projects and the maintenance and
conservation needs of artworks in the city’s art collection. This means meeting
with diverse groups from the community, artists, stakeholders,
inter-departmental colleagues, and others. Employee works closely with the
city’s art collection, maintaining inventory and database records, moving, and
installing (or working with others who are moving and installing) artwork and signage.
- Other duties include, but are not limited to, posting Calls to Artists,
and receiving artist applications, assisting staff in standard meetings,
including Art Selection Meetings and Public Art Committee meetings, responding
to community or artists requests for information; contacts selection committee
members for public arts projects; coordinates committee members; establishes
schedules and locations for committee to meet for review and selection of
artist proposals.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge of: creative arts practices
and policies; operation of modern office computer equipment and related
software; effective communication techniques; methods of performing multi-tasks
and prioritizing activities.
Working knowledge of: arts in metro areas, project
management.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working
relationships with artists, developers, interdepartmental colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in an art related
field (e.g. art history, art education, fine arts) and at least 1 year of
experience in
an art related field, or an equivalent
combination of education (not less than possession of a high school
diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to
provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
Examination
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Comments
During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for
the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation,
response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
