Home Front Command

The Home Front Command operates in various emergency situations, specializing in the field of civilian protection. In times of crisis or war, the Home Front Command operates to its fullest capabilities, using all its resources in order to instruct the civilian population on how to cope with the threats facing Israel. The commander of the Home Front Command is Major General Rafi Milo. The unit’s purpose is simple: to save lives. It operates search-and-rescue missions in Israel and around the world, aiding in rescue and recovery from incidents such as terror attacks, floods, conflagrations, etc.

The command is divided into five districts: the Northern District, the Haifa District, the Jerusalem District, the Central District, the Dan District, and the Southern District. The purpose of the districts under the command is to maintain continuous contact with local authorities.

The Home Front Command was established in February 1992 following the Gulf War, with the aim of operating on the civilian front in routine and emergency situations, and in order to prepare the population for emergencies. All soldiers in the command wear the command's signature orange beret.

The Search and Rescue Brigade is a coed brigade under its command and is trained to carry out special rescue missions in Israel and abroad. It was established in 2013 and was active in Operation Protective Edge (2014). In October 2017, a delegation of soldiers and officers from the brigade flew to Mexico and aided the victims of the devastating earthquake.
