Job Description


EEO Investigator - Attorney General's Office

The Utah Attorney General's Office is seeking an investigator to support the Utah Transit Authority (“UTA”). The successful candidate will assist UTA’s AG counsel and conduct investigations of routine to moderate complexity involving claims related to discrimination based on race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc., sexual harassment claims, other investigations, and perform additional related duties as required. 


The successful applicant should either have or be willing to develop a working knowledge of both Utah and federal antidiscrimination laws. Preferred candidates will also have demonstrated experience in performing investigations, reviewing documents, interviewing witnesses, and writing clear investigative reports. The position will be housed at the Utah Transit Authority Headquarters in Salt Lake City and report to the Transit Section Director.


Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience. Applicants must have the ability to analyze problems, apply best principles and practices, prepare and present investigative findings in a clear and concise manner, and support investigative conclusions logically. Some travel is required as incumbents may need to perform investigations throughout the service area of UTA. While not a requirement, familiarity with legal processes and procedures is a plus.


Example of Duties

  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.
  • Conducts investigations into allegations of abusive conduct and/or policy violations.
  • Conducts investigations regarding alleged discrimination, sexual harassment, and/or other EEO claims; interviews witnesses, gathers information, analyzes and summarizes; writes reports articulating investigation findings and recommendations for disciplinary action.
  • Analyzes, summarizes, and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.
  • Assist and coach supervisors and managers with employee related issues including employee corrective and disciplinary actions, discrimination charges, employment hearings, grievances and other employee issues.
  • Collects data and prepares material to represent agency in grievance hearings and discrimination hearings; assists director with defense during hearings.
  • Establish positive public relations and working relationships.
  • Work with managers and supervisors to develop strategies for the resolution of human resource problems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:
  • Principles, theories, and practices of personnel/human resource management.
  • Principles, theories, and practices of employee relations.
  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended.
  • Title XIX.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act and related employment legislation.
  • Applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures.
  • Agency and/or organizational program(s).

Supplemental Information

  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • This position will provide EEO/HR support to the client, Utah Transit Authority. It does not provide these services to Attorney General personnel and does not fall under the Attorney General's Human Resource office.
