THE POSITION

Start the next chapter of your Career!  The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at SCI Coal Township is actively seeking devoted and a resourceful Chaplaincy Program Director.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Chaplaincy Program Director, you will be responsible for the administration of religious activities and supervision of the Chaplaincy Department for your assigned institution.  

You will be supervising and reviewing the work of subordinate Department of Corrections: Chaplains, Contracted Chaplains, chaplaincy interns, religious volunteers and inmate workers. You will be scheduling Chaplain visits to all General Population housing units, Restricted and Segregated Housing Units, and the Infirmary. You will plan, coordinate and oversee all religious services and instructional classes as well as holy day observances for inmates of various faiths. Other duties will include evaluating requests for religious accommodations, Evaluating and monitoring the use of Chaplains, Contracted Chaplains, interns, volunteers and others,  deploying or redeploying them to meet changes within the inmate population and  Interviewing and recommending candidates for employment in the Chaplaincy Department and recommends Contracted Chaplains, Volunteers and Public Visitors utilized in the Religious Services Department.

Work Schedule/other info
Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, one day a week 11:30am to 8:00pm; in addition some evenings and/or weekends may also be required to provide coverage for religious services and/or holy day observances.
This position is 37.50 hours per week.

This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $60,362.00 (before taxes).


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

If you are selected for hire and you are not a current Commonwealth employee, this position requires you to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to the start of your employment.  You are considered to be fully vaccinated two weeks after your second dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines) or two weeks after receiving a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine (e.g., the Johnson & Johnson vaccine).  If you are not fully vaccinated prior to the start of your employment, or you have not received an accommodation exempting you from the Commonwealth’s vaccination policy based on a medical or religious reason, your job offer will be rescinded.

One year as a Chaplain (commonwealth title);

                                  OR

Three years of professional pastoral experience including one year in an institutional or specialized setting; and a bachelor’s degree;

                                 OR

An equivalent combination of experience and training including one year of professional pastoral experience in an institutional or specialized setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• All candidates require, at time of interview, documentation of official sanction by a faith group to practice as a religious leader.
• All employees in the Department of Corrections must complete, within six months of hire, the Correctional Chaplains Training Course.
• Certain positions in the Department of Corrections require one unit of clinical pastoral education or an equivalent specialized training.
