King County is l
ooking for veterans, active duty members, or reservists who are creative problem solvers with a desire to serve the people of King County. Successful candidates will be placed in Veteran Fellowship positions where they will have an opportunity to immerse themselves into a challenging role at King County.

Our organization strongly values the leadership skills, teamwork, problem-solving, mission oriented and multi-cultural awareness that military service personnel offer. The Vets 4 HIRE Program was created to support Veterans in making a successful transition from military to civilian employment and to provide a pipeline of skilled military talent for positions within King County. Fellowships offer opportunities and training to increase valuable skills or knowledge attained as a service member. Our goal through this program is to help participants secure future employment within King County or other civilian employers after completion of the Veteran Fellowship.

THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE USED TO NOTIFY ELIGIBLE VETERANS, RESERVISTS AND NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS WHEN OPPORTUNITIES FOR VETERAN FELLOWSHIP ARISE AND WILL BE SENT DETAILED DESCRIPTIONS OF THESE POSITIONS. 

POSITIONS ARE CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT AND WILL BE ADDED TO THIS JOB POSTING UNDER "AVAILABLE 2021 POSITIONS" AS THEY ARE CREATED. WE EXPECT TO FILL APPROXIMATELY 16 POSITIONS IN 2021.
 
 Vets 4 HIRE positions will be:

  • in a variety of career fields; AND 
  • in a variety of King County departments; AND 
  • full-time or part-time, AND 
  • six months to one year in duration depending on the needs of the King County hiring agency and available funding.
Candidates must meet the Vets 4 HIRE eligibility requirements to be placed in an eligible candidate pool. Candidates may be considered for multiple opportunities. 

These Fellowship opportunities will vary from 24-40 hours per week for six months depending on the hiring department's needs. There is a possibility for extension of a Fellowship opportunity, not to exceed a total of 2080 hrs. depending on available funding. Specific work hours will vary based on assignment.
   
The work associated with many of these positions will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.
   
To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for these opportunities will be joining an innovative and progressive team. BENEFITS:

  • .025 hours of sick leave accruals for each hour worked 
  • Affordable Care Act (ACA) medical benefits only when working 30+ hours/week 
  • USERRA benefits of 21 paid days per year and pay differential

  • Veteran fellows are not eligible for vacation leave, holiday pay or retirement, nor medical only when the position is less than 30 hours/week
COMPENSATION: (Is based on highest military rank held OR education level.)
  • Veteran Fellow I - $17.78 - $22.54 - High School graduate; or pursuing BA; or enlisted grade E1 – E3
  • Veteran Fellow II - $20.02 - $25.37 - Possess BA; or pursuing Masters; or enlisted
     grade E4 – E6
  • Veteran Fellow III - $25.38 - $32.17 - Completed Masters or Officer rank, or enlisted grade E7 – E9
