As humanity journeys into the next frontier of space exploration, the Atlas recalls our first steps on the moon with a form inspired by the Apollo lunar landing module. Inspired by the core of any civilization – agriculture – the interior features a central auger. This mechanism rotates to gently scoop material from the lunar surface while limiting the production of airborne dust, and large volumes of milled regolith are contained within the same compartment from which the auger extends. To minimize static attractions and resist thermal shock, fused silica encases the regolith. Sharply angled to reduce dust accumulation, a solar array supplies energy to the motors needed to rotate the auger and wheels. Solar panels revolve around the top surface, facilitating contact with light at all angles. Triangular tank drivetrain wheels at each side allow the robot to navigate the terrain with increased stability.
