Know Before You Go
The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest welcomes you to explore, enjoy, and make positive memories from your outdoor experiences on National Forest System (NFS) lands.
Please remember these are wide-open spaces and wildlands. Plan ahead, be aware of potential hazards, and make sure you check out the following conditions before you head out.
Current Fire Information
As fire danger increases, restrictions on use of fire, smoking, and using equipment that can spark a fire may be put in place. Look at fire information resources for that knowledge. Check the Alerts & Notices page or contact the Ranger District office near the location you want to visit for current fire information and restrictions that may have been put in place to reduce the risk of wildfire.
Livestock in the Forests - Weed-Free Feed is Required
As part of a larger effort to reduce invasive species, the Forest Service requires all hay, straw, or pellets used on NFS lands to be certified as weed free. (Intermountain Regional Order Number: 04-00-097). List of Nevada certified weed free forage producers.
Pets in the Forest
Dogs are welcome in most areas throughout our National Forests, but there are some simple guidelines we ask dog owners to follow to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all who use these great public resources, including their furry friends.
Recreational Shooting
Recreational shooting on NFS lands is allowed unless a specific area has been closed to the activity because it jeopardizes public safety. Information about closures is available at each Ranger District office. There are no designated recreation target shooting areas on the Forest.
