Seasonal Recreation Pass for Black Hills National Forest Facilities

Many picnic grounds, trailheads, and other recreational areas in the Black Hills National Forest have no day use fee. However, some developed areas do charge a fee (listed below). If you visit these recreational sites frequently, you may want to purchase a seasonal day use pass from the Forest Concessionaire, Forest Recreation Management (FRM). Under a special use permit, FRM operates Black Hills National Forest campgrounds and other recreation facilities May through September. FRM has been operating these facilities since 1999.

These passes are for USDA Forest Service facilities located within the Black Hills National Forest fee areas and should not be confused with South Dakota State Park Passes.

Seasonal day use passes are also available by mail from Forest Recreation Management (FRM), PO Box 1168, Hill City, SD 57745. Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

These passes are not transferable between vehicles.  

 

STANDARD SEASONAL DAY USE PASS - $25 

(1/2 price with the Interagency Senior/Access Pass)

If you do not have a seasonal day use pass, the fee in these areas is $5 ($2.50 with Senior/Access Pass). Day use passes are available at the day-use recreation areas from FRM staff and/or at the self-service pay stations.

PREMIUM SEASONAL DAY USE PASS - $40

(1/2 price with an Interagency Senior/Access Pass)
