EMWD Customers Urged to Perform Due Diligence on Insurance Advertisements
Perris, CA (December 28, 2021) — Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) is advising customers to do their due diligence if they are contacted by a private company offering water line insurance.
While some companies may be fully licensed and reputable, others attempting to sell the insurance may seek to take advantage of residents, particularly seniors, by using scare tactics in their advertising efforts. Some of these companies include language in their policies that make it extremely difficult for homeowners to collect on a claim.
EMWD has no affiliation with any company seeking to sell water line insurance. Often times, the correspondence sent by these companies is designed to look like official government issued correspondence.
A broken water line may be covered under a traditional homeowners insurance policy. EMWD encourages its customers to read their existing policy to determine if such failures would be covered.
Should a water line break between the main line and the meter box, EMWD is the responsible party and in most cases will perform the repairs.
Customers who receive solicitations for water line insurance should thoroughly investigate the company offering the service.
“EMWD wants to remind customers to always do their research when working with any company,” EMWD President Phil Paule said. “By doing your due diligence, you will be better protected in the rare event that any damage does occur to the water lines in your home.”
