Travel Advisory: Watch for Flaggers on Route 86 in Wilmington, Essex County
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is advising motorists to watch for daytime alternating flows of traffic directed by flaggers on State Route 86 in the Town of Wilmington, in the area locally known as the Wilmington Notch southwest of the entrance to Whiteface Ski Center, starting Monday, May 16 for drainage work for the next several weeks. At least one weather-dependent nighttime closure with a temporary detour is expected to be scheduled in the near future, with dates to be determined; the road will be reopened to a single alternating lane with flaggers each morning. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license. Motorists are reminded to Move Over a lane, if safely possible, or slow down significantly whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.
