Shelby County Public Services Activities

Through the Consolidated Planning process and from community member feedback, Shelby County Housing identified senior services as a growing need. Specifically, community members identified recreational, educational, and arts programming as a priority need for seniors in the Urban County which is Shelby County outside of the City of Memphis. Shelby County has awarded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to Creative Aging in order to support arts and culture opportunities for seniors.  These funds allow the organization to provide recreational and educational programming/services to seniors in the Urban County to benefit our seniors in these communities.

The communities of Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland, and Millington help to schedule these classes at senior centers in their community. These classes span various arts and culture formats and include musical performances, hands-on workshops, and studio classes. Eligible beneficiaries include residents of the Urban County who are at least 55 years old or who meet the age requirement of the specific senior or community center that hosts the entertainment or educational activity.
