Summit County Opioid Healing Fund announces $350K in grants targeting recovery, support services

Akron Community Foundation

Some 16 Summit County organizations will receive grants to provide recovery and support services for individuals impacted by the opioid epidemic through the Akron Community Foundation’s Summit County Opioid Healing Fund.

AKRON, Ohio – Akron Community Foundation’s board of directors approved 16 grants totaling $341,485 to Summit County organizations that support community members impacted by the opioid epidemic.

It’s the first round of grants issued from the Summit County Opioid Healing Fund, which was established earlier this summer by the Opiate Abatement Advisory Council using settlement funds from Summit County’s federal opioid trial. The county received $104 million in the settlement nearly two years ago for addiction and recovery services. County Council, in an agreement with the Akron Community Foundation, approved $500,000 of the settlement to establish the fund. Grants focus on organizations not currently funded by the Summit County ADM Board and include programs that offer peer support, recovery services and community-based recovery events.
