CEM at COP26

Join us at COP26 from 1-12 November! Hosted by the UK, this action-packed two weeks will feature several CEM workstreams and partner organizations as they look to catalyse global international clean energy cooperation to keep 1.5 degrees within reach.

COP26 will bring together many members of the CEM community, including high-level government officials, international organizations, the private sector, and others to supercharge clean energy transitions this decade. The CEM Community will be hosting, co-hosting, and participating in a number of events over the next weeks. Please note we will try to keep this page up to date, but please visit pavilion pages for most up to date information.

Clean Hydrogen Initiative Seminar

We are delighted to join Korea at their event on Clean Hydrogen, where our intervention will feature the work of the CEM’s Hydrogen Initiative on the important role that cross-border supply chains will play to fast-track the deployment of Hydrogen globally.

Steps towards an open and cooperative Climate Club for Climate, Competitiveness and Industry

Industry continues to be a hard-to-abate sector, with a significant share of the overall global emissions. Hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and German Ministry for Finance (MoF), this event will bring together some of the leading experts and voices from government and industry to highlight the importance of a collaborative climate club to bring about this transformation. The event will feature CEM’s Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative.

Leaders’ Event: Accelerating Clean Technology Innovation and Deployment

This event will bring together countries and business leaders to discuss how we can work together to accelerate the innovation and deployment of clean technologies needed to keep the 1.5°C goal within reach so that they are accessible and affordable for all. The event will set out a positive vision for a clean, green future and all its benefits, including creating new jobs and growth globally. The spotlight will shine on new leading initiatives to drive action and set out ambitious plans for a decade of delivery and international collaboration.

Accelerating the Transition of Industrial Clusters toward Net-Zero
The role of the industrial sector, and that of specific industrial clusters, will be of paramount importance for achieving any net-zero goal. This event will feature the CEM’s Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative (IDDI), and the efforts that governments are taking to transform this sector.

IEA’s Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 Roadmap shows the important role hydrogen needs to play in a transition to net-zero energy systems. Super-Efficient Equipment & Appliance Deployment (SEAD) Product Efficiency Call to Action 

Join the SEAD initiative’s Product Efficiency Call to Action signing – one of the boldest product efficiency calls to action ever! This COP26 Product Efficiency Call to Action is led by the UK, in partnership with CEM’s SEAD initiative, the IEA, EP100, and Race to Zero. Signatories agree to work towards doubling the energy efficiency of four key products (Industrial motor systems, air conditioners, refrigerators, and lighting) sold globally by 2030.

Drive to Zero- MOU Signing on Zero Emission Medium and Heavy-duty Vehicles

This MOU will set the new global standard for transforming the transport sector to zero-emissions – it also puts commercial transport on pace to match Paris Agreement carbon net-zero goals. Working together, nations are setting ambitious but feasible targets and sending a clear market signal to manufacturers as well as fleets. That clear signal is: invest in ZE-MHDVs.

Drive to Zero session – Aligning Industry and Government Support for a Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty (ZE-MHDV) Future 

Join leading businesses and subnational government partners when they announce their endorsement of a Global MOU for 100% new zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (ZE-MHDVs) by 2040, which is accompanied by an endorsement from businesses, subnational governments, and other supporting non-state actors. This event is co-organized by CEM’s Drive to Zero Campaign

Kick-starting Construction Decarbonisation – creating demand for low-carbon materials 

This event will send a strong, unified demand signal for low carbon materials, such as steel and cement, by bringing together key initiatives, such as the CEM’s Industrial Deep Decarbonisation Initiative, the First Movers Coalition, the Pacific Coast Collaborative, the Clean Construction Forum, SteelZero and CementZero.
