House League FAQs

Q:  My son/daughter has never played before, can he/she play in this house league?
A: Yes. We welcome players of all skills levels in all divisions (except for the Adult/Over 18 division, which is for experienced players only.)

Q: Do you need to be a resident of Clarence to participate?
A: No, we do not have a residency requirement

Q: If I volunteer to coach, will I be assigned to my son or daughter's team?
A: Yes. We wouldn't expect you to coach a different team and miss your own child's game.

Q: I volunteered to coach when I registered my child, when will I receive a refund for my deposit?
A: There will be a Youth Protection Training at the Coaches Meeting, once completed we will begin processing refunds. (If you cannot make it to the meeting, the training will be done virtually at a later time.)

Q: How are rosters formed?
A: We use a computer program that is designed to form teams based on  number of variables (including age, experience level, etc)

Q: When will rosters and schedules be made available?
A: For the 2024 Season - Registration closes on June 30th, at that time we will finalize our coach pairings and prepare the data to be run through our software. Coaches will receive the rosters on Friday, July 26th and will be contacting families within a few days. Rosters and Schedules will also be posted on the website the week of 7/22.

Q: Can my player play down a division?
A: No, we do not honor this request for any reason.

Q:  My son/daughter needs more of a challenge, can they play up a division?
A: Maybe. Each instance must be approved by the House League Director and Division Manager (Parent will be required to coach.) Please contact the House League Director ASAP - cschousedirector@gmail.com. If  a player is going to play up a division, one of the parents must volunteer to be a coach of that child's team. (Please note, a player can only be moved up if they are in the 2nd year of a division)

Q: I have 2 children in the same division, will they be on the same team?
A: Yes.  Occasionally, data entered at registration may cause siblings to be separated. If you find that this happens, please let the coaches know ASAP and we will correct this.

Q: Can my child play with his best friend/neighbor/etc?

A: No. In a typical year, we have over 1000 players  across all divisions, there is no way that we could accommodate every request. If one parent of each child volunteers to coach and they request to coach together, the children will end up on the same roster as they will be linked via parents.

Q: Can I request a specific coach for my player?
A: No. There is no way that we could accommodate every request.

Q:  What is the required uniform:
A: All divisions require shin guards to  participate in games and practices. See below for foot wear.  Registration includes jersey/shorts/socks for divisions 1,2,3,4,5.  Division 6 includes jersey and black socks. Division 9 includes either uniform shirts or a sweatshirt in initial year, these will be replaced/upgraded every few years. Little Critters includes a jersey.

Q:  Is there required footwear?:
A: Although cleats are not required, they are recommended for Divisions 1 thru 4 and Division 6. If cleats are worn, they must be appropriate soccer cleats. A player will NOT be allowed to play with metal cleats! A player will NOT be allowed to play wearing baseball or football cleats as there is an extra stud near the big toe which is a safety concern!
If there is any question, please contact the House League Director or the Referee Manager.

Q: Is there a multi-player discount?
A: The first two players in a family will pay the regular fee, any player within the same family after the first 2 will be charged at 50% (including late fees, if applicable.)

Q: When does the season start?

Q: What days and times are practices?
A: Practice schedules are determined by the individual coaches.

Q: What days are games played?
A:  For the 2024 Season - Games will run for 6 weeks (plus one week of playoffs for Divisions 2 and 3) beginning on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 (Divs 1 and 6 will begin the week of July 22nd.) Weeknight games will be Monday thru Thursdays at 6:30PM during August and 6:15PM during September (due to daylight). Your game night will most likely vary from week to week. Saturday games will begin at 9AM and run through the afternoon

Q: Where are the games played?
A: All games are played at the Clarence Soccer Complex located at 10000 Clarence Center Road. (Map of grounds)

Q: What is the game format/how long are games?
A: See format page of website

Q: What is the reason that the games are played in quarters, when travel soccer leagues play in halves?
A: We use quarters to allow coaches to have more time to teach their players during the game. Additionally, many coaches in the younger divisions choose to play a different player in goal each quarter, as an entire half may be too long for some 7 and 8 year olds.

Q: Will games be played in the rain?
A: Yes and No - Games will be played in the rain, but may be delayed or may be rescheduled due to lightning or field conditions. This will be at the discretion of the town, Facilities Director, House League Director or Referee Manager.
If games will be canceled due to weather or field conditions, an email will be sent to all of House League via Sportsengine and updates will be posted to Facebook and Instagram.
Referees and Coaches should pull players off of the field when lightning is seen. If games are canceled  - coaches will be notified by the House League Director and an email will be sent to all House League families via Sportsengine.

Q: Where is the lost and found?
A: The lost and found closet is located in the clubhouse on the south side of the building - please enter through the door closest to the parking lot (do not walk through the classroom.) This will be open during all house league games, the Clarence Classic, camp and most JSL and Thruway games.
(Certain valuables, such as cell phones, car keys, etc will be held at the snack bar for safekeeping.)
