Ethics Attorney, Florida Commission on Ethics, Tallahassee

Summary: The Florida Commission on Ethics (Commission), the constitutionally independent agency serving as the guardian of the standards of conduct for the officers and employees of the state, counties, cities and other political subdivisions of the state, is currently seeking applicants for the position of Ethics Attorney.  As an Ethics Attorney you will provide legal counsel, representation, advice, education, and opinions on an array of ethics-related matters for the Commission, under the direction of its General Counsel and the Executive Director.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Researches, drafts, and presents legally binding, judicially reviewable ethics advisory opinions interpreting the ethics laws for consideration and adoption by the Commission.
  • Drafts orders analyzing the legal sufficiency of complaints received by the Commission; prepares other orders for consideration and adoption by the Commission.
  • Provides legal advice to Commission members and staff; assists investigators in preliminary investigations of ethics complaints.
  • Provides legal advice and counsel through written analyses and telephonic communications with public officials and employees, local government attorneys, the press, and the general public regarding the Commission’s interpretation of the ethics laws.
  • With adequate supervisory support, represents the Commission in judicial and administrative litigation before state and federal courts.
  • Develops and leads educational ethics trainings and lectures for the Commission.  
  • Participates in seminars and other meetings designed to inform interested persons and organizations of ethics laws in Florida.
  • Engages in regulatory rulemaking on behalf of the agency; recommends and drafts proposed legislative amendments.
  • Prepares and drafts contracts, agreements, and related legal documents for the Commission.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Attorney in good standing with The Florida Bar or passage of Florida Bar within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:  Experience in administrative law.

Experience with Florida ethics laws.

Salary:  Commensurate with education, skills and experience.

Assistant County Attorney, Charlotte County

Summary:

The Charlotte County Attorney’s Office is accepting applications for the position of Assistant County Attorney. Interested applicants must be licensed to practice law in Florida and have at least three (3) years of experience in local government, with emphasis in public procurement and related transactional matters. The ideal candidate will have diverse
experience in many local government practice areas. Duties will vary based on policy directives and departmental demands.

Candidates should be able to independently analyze County legal issues and advise County staff and elected officials; draft, review and revise legal documents such as contracts, ordinances, resolutions, leases, legal opinions, policies and

Assistant City Attorney – Workers’ Compensation, City of Miami, Florida

Summary:  Leon County Government is accepting applications for the position of Legal Records Manager in the County Attorney’s Office.  This position facilitates and coordinates the County’s response to public records requests, maintains a working knowledge of applicable policies and procedures regarding processing public records requests, and maintains a working knowledge of statutory public records exemptions, including redacting exempt information, as well as maintaining the contents of paper and electronic public records request files.  In addition, this position assists in answering the main phone line for the County Attorney’s Office and manages the Office’s paper and electronic legal files from creation to destruction in accordance with established policies and procedures and statutory retention schedules.  A Florida Certified Records Manager certification is preferred; however, if the applicant does not currently possess this certification, then upon being eligible, the applicant must attain and maintain the certification.  The successful applicant will have a diligent work ethic, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be a team player.  The successful applicant will also have excellent oral and written communication skills, be well organized, and have a good working knowledge of both Office 365 and electronic document management software.  Salary is negotiable, dependent upon experience, and is complemented by an excellent benefits package at the Executive Support Service level.  The current annual salary range is $37,211.20 – $61,380.80 ($17.89 – $29.51 / Hour).  Leon County is a member of the Florida Retirement System.  A completed Leon County Government application, a resume, and a cover letter are required.  The position will remain open until filled.
