Requirements
- Written Exam, Sometimes Required. If applying for an original commission, you may need to take and pass a written exam before applying. See: https://dos.ny.gov/notary-public#written-exam for exam information.
- Court clerks appointed after taking the qualifying civil service exam and Attorneys admitted to the NYS Bar are exempt from the written exam.
- Applicant must be at least 18 years of age
- County Clerks are exempt from fees with proof of employment.
