SOUTHINGTON - The Southington Chamber of Commerce and local leaders joined The Arc of Southington in celebrating the opening of their new Roberge Pavilion on Tuesday, which will be used for a variety of programs.
The Arc of Southington, located at 201 W. Main St., Plantsville, provides support services and recreational activities for individuals with cognitive disabilities. Founded in 1954, The Arc of Southington serves 38 individuals 18 and older in Southington and surrounding towns today. They have nine facilities in the area and several homes for supported independent living.
The new Roberge Pavilion was funded by a grant from the Bradley Henry Barnes and Leila Upson Barnes Memorial Trust at the Main Street Community Foundation. It is named in memory of Judy Roberge, who was recreation director for 26 years at The Arc of Southington. Roberge died June 24 2021. Members of her family including her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and family members from out of state attended the ribbon cutting with the Chamber on Tuesday. They were joined by Rep. Chris Poulos, who read a proclamation honoring Roberge's contributions.
"Judy was our first recreation director and she was very dedicated to our organization," said Patricia Gibney, CEO of The Arc of Southington, on Thursday. "She planned all of our activities and accompanied individuals on cruises and trips to dude ranches."
