Fairplay landfill environmental evaluation
The Bureau of Land Management has initiated an environmental evaluation of the Fairplay Landfill in Park County, Colo. The BLM will assess the landfill according to the standards set forth in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, -otherwise known as CERCLA.

The purpose of the BLM’s investigation is to determine whether the landfill has released any substances that pose a risk to human health or the environment, and, if so, to develop, evaluate and select an action to address the release. A cost analysis of possible actions will also be conducted. Assessment results and recommendations will be documented, and the BLM will publish the report ahead of a public comment period.

When the report is released, members of the community are encouraged to review it and to submit comments during the public comment period. Community input is a key component to determining the best course of action.

For questions on the assessment please contact Melissa Smeins, BLM project manager for the Bonita Peak Mining District: msmeins@blm.gov, (719) 429-1628.

Media enquiries, please contact Levi Spellman, BLM public affairs officer for the Rocky Mountain District: lspellman@blm.gov, (719) 839-1584.
