NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — New Jersey police arrested 41 fugitives as part of a warrant sweep called “Operation Essex,” authorities said Monday.

Together with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Newark police arrested the 41 people all wanted for allegedly committing felony crimes, officials said.

“Anyone charged with a crime who ignores a warrant in Essex County,” said Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, “should know that temporarily out of sight is not out of mind; law enforcement will be vigilant in finding and prosecuting you. You can run but you cannot hide.”

The crimes ranged from homicide and aggravated assault to weapons possession. Four of the people arrested were wanted for homicide and 12 have suspected gang affiliations, Stephens said.

The five-day operation was conducted earlier this month and all 41 of the people arrested are currently in custody.
